May 21In response to the rise of Latin urban music such as reggaeton and Latin hip hop, Billboard establishes the Latin Rhythm Albums chart. Barrio Fino by Daddy Yankee is the album to reach number-one on the chart. • August 27In addition to the newly created Latin Rhythm Albums chart, Billboard launches the Latin Rhythm Airplay chart for reggaeton and Latin hip hop songs. "Lo Que Pasó, Pasó" by Daddy Yankee is the first song to reach number one on the chart on the week-dated August 12, 2005. • November 3 — The 6th Annual Latin Grammy Awards are held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California.
