On April 24, 1958, Wollenberg was nominated by President
Dwight D. Eisenhower to a seat on the
United States District Court for the Northern District of California vacated by Judge
Michael Joseph Roche. Wollenberg was confirmed by the
United States Senate on May 15, 1958, and received his commission on May 19, 1958. He was a member of the
Judicial Conference of the United States from 1966 to 1969. He assumed
senior status on April 30, 1975. Wollenberg served in that capacity until his death on April 19, 1981, in San Francisco. ==See also==
