ethnonym Aneuniates can be derived from the Gaulish
aneun- ('inspired') attached to the suffix
-ates ('belonging to'), although the etymology of the first element remains unclear.
Xavier Delamarre has proposed to posit a deity named *
Aneunos ('The Inspired'), with
