The court has been criticized as vulnerable to political influence. Popular examples include
Nawaz Sharif's life imprisonment in a 1999 case, Balochi politician
Akhtar Mengal, as well as PTI members for the cases stemming from the
May 9 riots. Amnesty International noted that Section 37 of the law which aims to bring in anyone "who scandalizes the Court or Tribunal or otherwise does anything which tends to bring the Court or Tribunal... into hatred, ridicule or contempt".
