The park was proposed in Western Australia's
Forest Management Plan 2004-2013 as part of a strategy to better protect old-growth forests. It was created by the Reserves (National Parks, Conservation Parks, and Nature Reserves) Bill 2004, which redesignated state forest lands to create the new national park. It is part of the
Walpole Wilderness Area, which was designated in the same year, and encompasses several other national parks and reserves to the south and east. ==References==
