1981–1987: Uncanny X-Men From 1981 to 1987, Mannix was the lead singer of Australian band
Uncanny X-Men. The band released two top twenty albums, ''
'Cos Life Hurts and What You Give Is What You Get. The group disbanded in 1987, however continue to do occasional appearances, such as the Countdown Spectacular'' in 2006. In 1986, Mannix made his acting debut as Max in
The Flying Doctors.
1988–present: solo career In 1990, Mannix released his debut studio album, preceded by single "Beautiful People". In 1993, Mannix appeared in the guest role of Connor Cleary in the Australian soap opera
Neighbours. In 2006, Mannix was part of the ''Absolutely 80's'' tour which played at venues around Australia and features other popular eighties stars and bands such as
Boom Crash Opera,
Kids in the Kitchen,
The Black Sorrows,
The Choirboys and
Wa Wa Nee. The tour continued through to 2018. In September 2006, he performed at the
2006 AFL Grand Final. In 2012, Mannix appeared as a contestant
the twelfth season of
Dancing with the Stars, placing fifth. In 2016, Mannix was cast as "Buddy", in the stage musical
