2020 census As of the
2020 census, Caney had a population of 1,788 people, 761 households, and 452 families. The population density was 1,322.5 inhabitants per square mile (510.6/km). There were 928 housing units at an average density of 686.4 per square mile (265.0/km). The median age was 39.1 years. 26.3% of residents were under the age of 18, 6.7% were from 18 to 24, 25.1% were from 25 to 44, 23.8% were from 45 to 64, and 18.1% were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females, there were 96.1 males, and for every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.5 males age 18 and over. 0.0% of residents lived in urban areas, while 100.0% lived in rural areas. There were 761 households, of which 28.5% had children under the age of 18 living in them. Of all households, 39.9% were married-couple households, 20.5% were households with a male householder and no spouse or partner present, and 32.1% were households with a female householder and no spouse or partner present. About 35.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 19.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. There were 928 housing units, of which 18.0% were vacant. poverty line, including 23.5% of those under the age of 18 and 6.6% of those ages 65 or over.

The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.05. The median age in the city was 35.9 years. 25.8% of residents were under the age of 18; 9.7% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 24.5% were from 25 to 44; 24.3% were from 45 to 64; and 15.8% were 65 years of age or older.
