Carney's Point first appeared as a
census designated place in the
1980 U.S. census. There were 2,829 households, out of which 28.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.3% were
married couples living together, 13.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.9% were non-families. 30.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 12.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.40 and the average family size was 2.98. In the CDP the population was spread out, with 23.0% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 28.4% from 25 to 44, 23.9% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 90.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.5 males. The median income for a household in the CDP was $39,976, and the median income for a family was $51,270. Males had a median income of $40,195 versus $26,620 for females. The
per capita income for the CDP was $19,208. 11.8% of the population and 9.3% of families were below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 13.4% are under the age of 18 and 10.2% are 65 or older. ==References==
