Desrochers grew up in Montreal's
South Shore, the youngest of two children. Her father was a truck driver, while her mother worked in the restaurant industry. Following her studies, Desrochers completed a six-month humanitarian internship in Mexico where she worked with street children. She later worked for two years as a political and public affairs officer at the Canadian embassy in Haiti where she met her husband. Upon returning to Canada, the family settled in
