Section 1 of the act repealed 199 enactments, listed in the first, second, third and fourth schedules to the act. Section 1 of the act included several safeguards to ensure that the repeal does not negatively affect existing rights or ongoing legal matters. Specifically, any legal rights, privileges, or remedies already obtained under the repealed laws, as well as any legal proceedings or principles established by them, remain unaffected. Section 1 of the act also provided that if someone is exempt from taking an oath or making a declaration that would normally be required for a position or benefit, they can still qualify for it by meeting all other conditions, as if they had taken the oath. Section 2 of the act specified where officers should take their
oaths of allegiance and
judicial oaths across
Great Britain and
Ireland, either before crown-appointed persons or in open court before various senior judges and courts, with specific provisions for
England,
Scotland, and
Ireland's distinct legal systems. == See also ==
