Fictional character biography
Conquest is a 5,000-year-old member of the Viltrumite race, a highly advanced alien species of extremely powerful humanoids, born on the planet Viltrum during the reign of Emperor Argall. He is one of the oldest documented Viltrumites, and has lived through two pivotal moments in Viltrumite history: the Great Purge, a gigantic planet-wide civil war initiated to purge the weak from Viltrumite society, Survivors, including Conquest, experienced long-term effects like reduced strength, resilience, and an impaired healing factor due to the virus's lasting damage on their bodies. After the Scourge Virus, during an expedition to a planet known as the "Savage Planet", Conquest came across a group of Rognarrs, extremely strong and brutal aliens, which ripped off his right arm and wounded his face, blinding him in his right eye. Despite the powerful innate healing factor of the Viltrumite species, the effects of the Scourge Virus temporarily weakened Conquest, and these injuries became permanent. Nevertheless, he continued serving the Viltrumite Empire, replacing his missing arm with a prosthetic. a storyline later adapted in the Season 3 episode "I Thought You'd Never Shut Up." He is sent to monitor Mark Grayson (Invincible) to ensure that he is working to bring the planet under the control of the Viltrumite Empire. His clash with Mark turns into a violent battle, causing significant destruction and casualties. During the fight, Conquest severely injures Atom Eve, Mark's girlfriend, provoking his fury. Mark eventually overpowers Conquest with repeated headbutts, leaving him apparently dead. Unbeknownst to Mark, Conquest survives, and is secretly imprisoned by Cecil Stedman in a concrete bunker underneath the Mojave Desert, hoping to extract information about Viltrumite plans. Viltrumite War and demise Conquest reappears during the Viltrumite War as an operative of the Viltrumite Empire. Having recovered from earlier injuries, he escapes confinement under the supervision of Cecil Stedman and returns to report to Grand Regent Thragg. As a consequence of his prior failure, he is reassigned to intercept Omni-Man and Allen the Alien, who are transporting Mark Grayson (Invincible), his half-brother Oliver and Tech Jacket to assist the Coalition of Planets in its conflict against the Empire. Conquest attacks and destroys the vessel carrying them, initiating a second confrontation with Mark. The engagement escalates when Omni-Man and Oliver intervene. During the battle, Oliver attempts to withdraw to a nearby planet, prompting Conquest to pursue him. Mark intercepts and restrains Conquest before starting to strangle him. And the two continue their struggle across the planet's surface. The encounter is marked by sustained close-quarters combat, with Conquest severely disemboweling Mark while Mark maintains his hold. The fight concludes when Conquest dies from suffocation. Mark survives the encounter but is left critically injured and near death. Omni-Man and Oliver later locate him at the scene, remaining on the planet for an extended period as he falls into a coma and gradually recovers. == Personality and motivations ==
Personality and motivations
Conquest is depicted as a highly disciplined yet psychologically unstable enforcer of the Viltrumite Empire in the comic series Invincible. He is known for his extreme violence and tactical ruthlessness. Unlike typical depictions of villains who revel in chaos, Conquest exhibits a deeply unsettling introspection, revealing a profound sense of isolation beneath his brutality. Accounts of his behavior suggest that his actions are influenced not merely by allegiance to the Viltrumite Empire but also by a desire to assert his own identity in a society that fears and ostracizes him. He is described as self-aware, recognizing the fear he instills in others and the consequences of his growing power. Despite his fearsome capabilities, Conquest experiences intense loneliness. Other Viltrumites avoid him, perceiving him as unstable, and he is frequently dispatched to carry out violent missions, further reinforcing his isolation. This combination of exceptional skill and social alienation shapes his worldview: he perceives himself as both a tool of the empire and a victim of his own abilities. Conquest's motivations appear to stem from a complicated interplay of duty, personal ambition, and emotional deprivation. While he carries out acts of violence efficiently and without hesitation, these acts are interwoven with a desire for recognition and acknowledgment that is persistently denied. His sense of anonymity—he is identified by function rather than name contributes to a profound existential loneliness, suggesting that his cruelty is as much a product of internal anguish as of ideological commitment. == Powers and abilities ==
Powers and abilities
Conquest is regarded as one of the oldest and strongest Viltrumites who can rival Omni-Man and other Viltrumites besides Thragg. As a member of the Viltrumite species, Conquest possesses several superhuman abilities characteristic of his race. These include superhuman strength and durability, enabling him to engage multiple enhanced opponents simultaneously and withstand extreme physical trauma. He is capable of unaided flight at supersonic speeds and exhibits enhanced longevity, aging at a significantly slower rate than humans. Conquest also possesses a highly advanced healing factor, allowing him to recover from severe injuries, though he is not invulnerable or immortal. Over the centuries, he has honed his hand-to-hand combat skills, developing a brutal, sadistic fighting style. Despite suffering extensive physical damage, including the loss of an arm and severe facial disfigurement, he remains a formidable and highly dangerous adversary. == Reception ==
