2020 census As of the
2020 census, Pell City had a population of 12,939. The median age was 42.7 years. 21.5% of residents were under the age of 18 and 20.5% of residents were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 94.0 males, and for every 100 females age 18 and over there were 90.7 males age 18 and over. 80.3% of residents lived in urban areas, while 19.7% lived in rural areas. There were 5,148 households in Pell City and 3,698 families. Of all households, 31.4% had children under the age of 18 living in them, 48.7% were married-couple households, 16.0% were households with a male householder and no spouse or partner present, and 30.5% were households with a female householder and no spouse or partner present. Many of the affluent neighborhoods along the lake shore that are often considered part of Pell City are actually just outside the city limits in unincorporated areas.
