Williams was born in Purley,
Surrey on 19 August 1933. She was educated at the
Eothen School in
Caterham before entering the
Chelsea School of Art in 1950. That year she was the winner of the young persons art prize at the
National Eisteddford of Wales held at
Caerphilly. Williams graduated from Chelsea in 1953 and over the next decade, alongside teaching part-time in schools and for the
Workers' Educational Association, became a regular participant both in group exhibitions organised by the
Arts Council of Wales and at the annual Eisteddford art shows. Williams participated in several group shows in Europe, winning first prize at the Salon de Vannes in 1989, exhibiting at the Salon des Beaux Arts in Paris in 1993 and at the Salon de Nantes Biennale in both 1987 and 1989. Works by Williams are held in the art collections of Bangor University,
Aberystwyth University,
Southampton Art Gallery and
