The river outflows from Generator Lake at the southeastern end of
Barnes Ice Cap in the
Baffin Mountains. It flows in a roughly northeastern direction before reaching the head of Clyde Fiord in
Kangiqtugaapik,
Baffin Bay. The nearest settlement, also named
