Corbin was an important mining town in the 1890s and included a stamp mill and heavy infrastructure for the time which yielded decent amounts of gold and silver. It was part of the Wickes-Corbin Mining District along with the town of
Wickes. The area was prosperous with the development of silver-lead deposits by the Alta Montana Company which later became Samuel T. Hauser’s Helena Mining & Reduction Company. Silver prices plummeted in 1893 and the rail service between Wickes and Helena closed in 1900, both causing a decline in the town's economy. It was replaced by steel in 1901. In 1982 it was abandoned and Jefferson County took possession. ==References==
