A graduate of
Purdue University, he was the recipient of many writing awards. Bain was a professional
jazz musician as well as a writer. He was married to Renée Paley-Bain, who is also a writer. Bain has two daughters, Laurie Bain Wilson (who is also a writer and author) and Pamela Bain Shippee (who is a teacher), and four grandsons, Alexander Bain Wilson, Zachary Shippee, Jake Shippee, and Luke Shippee.
