Dukla coal mine

Dukla mine is a closed coal mine located in Dolní Suchá near the city of Havířov in the Czech Republic. A disaster occurred there in 1961, now depicted in film Dukla 61.

History
It was founded in 1907. The Dukla name was used since 1947. After 1947, it was part OKD which is the abbreviation for Ostrava-Karviná Mines. Previous names were Kaiser Franz-Josef Mine, and Sucha Mine. In 2006, it further merged again with Mine Paskov. Shortly after the 2006 merger, it was decided the mine will be shut down. 1961 tragedy
On 7 July 1961 a tragedy occurred that resulted in the death of 108 miners. After the tragedy, all local mines switched to fire-proof belts in conveyors (in addition to other changes made). == References ==
