Sjunneson has been a Hugo Award finalist seven times for her writing and editorial work. She won the
Hugo Award for Best Fan Writer in 2021. She was a guest of honor at
CONvergence in 2021. Sjunneson was also nominated for the 2022
Hugo Award for Best Related Work for ''Being Seen: One Deafblind Woman's Fight to End Ableism''. As the nonfiction editor of
Disabled People Destroy Science Fiction, issue 24 of
Uncanny Magazine, Sjunneson shared in the 2019
Hugo Award for Best Semiprozine and the 2019
Aurora Award for Best Related Work. As an editorial staff member of
Uncanny Magazine, she was a winner of the 2019
British Fantasy Award for Best Magazine / Periodical. She was the first blind person to win a Hugo Award (although Edmund Meskys, editor of Hugo-winning
