Eucalyptus laevis is a mallee that typically grows to a height of or a tree to , and it forms a
lignotuber. It has thin, rough, fibrous or flaky bark on at least part of the trunk, sometimes also the larger branches, smooth bark above. Young plants and
coppice regrowth have stems that are more or less square in cross-section and leaves that are bluish grey, long and wide. Adult leaves are the same glossy green on both sides, linear to narrow lance-shaped, long and wide on a
petiole long. The flower buds are arranged in leaf axils in groups of between seven and eleven on an unbranched
peduncle long, the individual buds on
pedicels long. Mature buds are oval long and about wide with a conical or rounded
operculum. Flowering has been observed in January and the flowers are white. The fruit is a woody cylindrical to barrel-shaped
