Gird, India

Gird is a region of the Madhya Pradesh state in central India. In ancient time this region was known as Gopashetra roughly translate to "the land of Gopis" or "the land associated to Cowherds". The name is believed to have connections with the Gopis of the Lord Krishna mythology. It is said that the area was once inhabited by cowherds and associated with pastoral activities, especially in the times of Mahabharata. This may refer to the cultural or historical ties with Lord Krishna worship, which had an influence on the region.
