2020 census, Hazen had a population of 1,481. There were 613 households, of which 27.2% had children under the age of 18 living in them. Of all households, 45.7% were married-couple households, 18.1% were households with a male householder and no spouse or partner present, and 32.6% were households with a female householder and no spouse or partner present. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 2.88. In the city, the population was spread out, with 24.4% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 21.1% who were 65 years of age or older.
