Helge Dedek

Dedek passed the first and second German State Examinations in Law in 1997 and 2000. He completed a clerkship at the court of appeal in Cologne before taking research positions at the universities of Cologne and Bonn. He practised as a lawyer in Cologne, working in corporate law and real estate transactions. ==Academic career==

Dedek joined the Faculty of Law at McGill University as an assistant professor in 2007. and in 2023 he was appointed to the Arnold Wainwright Chair in Civil Law. Between 2018 and 2021 he also held a part-time position as Professeur associé (associate professor) at the University of Lausanne. In 2021, Dedek was elected as a Titular Member of the International Academy of Comparative Law. In that year he also received the John W. Durnford Award for Teaching Excellence at McGill University Faculty of Law. ==Research==

Helge's research includes study of legal history, including the history of individual rights and law's colonial past. ==Publications==
