2020 census As of the
2020 census, Hermantown had a population of 10,221. The median age was 41.0 years. 22.6% of residents were under the age of 18 and 19.2% of residents were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 104.7 males, and for every 100 females age 18 and over there were 106.0 males age 18 and over. There were 3,696 households in Hermantown, of which 30.8% had children under the age of 18 living in them. Of all households, 57.6% were married-couple households, 15.3% were households with a male householder and no spouse or partner present, and 21.4% were households with a female householder and no spouse or partner present. About 24.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. There were 3,867 housing units, of which 4.4% were vacant. The homeowner vacancy rate was 1.1% and the rental vacancy rate was 3.0%.

The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.01. The median age in the city was 40.1 years. 22.6% of residents were under the age of 18; 8.2% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 26.5% were from 25 to 44; 28.9% were from 45 to 64; and 13.9% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 54.0% male and 46.0% female.
