Petersen signed with the
Chicago Cardinals in 1935. He played in 11 games, starting four, for the Cardinals during the 1935 season, recording 95 carries for 297 yards, two catches for 37 yards, and five completions on 17 passing attempts for 92 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions. In May 1936, Petersen was traded to the
Detroit Lions for
Pug Vaughan. Petersen appeared in 11 games, starting two, in 1936, totaling 41 rushing attempts for 278 yards and three touchdowns, eight receptions for 38 yards, and six incomplete passes for one interception. He had the longest carry in the NFL that year with an 84-yarder. ==Personal life==
