Pardee came from a long line of physicians. He was born to Dr. Ensign Bennet Pardee on January 26, 1892, and his brother was the cardiologist
Harold E. B. Pardee. His granduncle Charles Inslee Pardee was dean of the
New York Medical College. He was also a descendant of
William Brewster and
William Bradford of the
Plymouth Colony. He interned at the
St. Luke's Hospital, then the
Neurological Institute of New York. He was also attending neurologist at St. Luke's and secretary of the hospital's medical board. He helped found the Association for Research in Nervous and Mental Disease, of which he was vice president, and was also a member and vice president of the
