Racial and ethnic composition 2020 census As of the
2020 census, the county had a population of 9,189. The median age was 43.8 years. 18.7% of residents were under the age of 18 and 18.7% of residents were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 128.7 males, and for every 100 females age 18 and over there were 134.4 males age 18 and over. 0.0% of residents lived in urban areas, while 100.0% lived in rural areas. There were 3,100 households in the county, 2,208 of which were families; 29.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them and 34.5% had a female householder with no spouse or partner present. About 30.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. There were 3,542 housing units, of which 12.5% were vacant. Among occupied housing units, 73.1% were owner-occupied and 26.9% were renter-occupied. The homeowner vacancy rate was 1.1% and the rental vacancy rate was 6.4%. ==Government==
