Longobardi was nominated by President
Ronald Reagan on April 4, 1984, to a seat on the
United States District Court for the District of Delaware vacated by Judge
James Levin Latchum. He was confirmed by the
United States Senate on April 24, 1984, and received his commission on May 3, 1984. He served as Chief Judge from 1989 to 1996. He assumed
