Kat Theophanous is an Australian politician. She is the Labor Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly, representing the seat of Northcote since 2018. She is a member of the Labor Right faction.
Background
Theophanous was born and raised in Alphington, the youngest child of Greek Cypriot migrant parents. Her father Theo Theophanous was a former Labor state politician and minister in the 1990s and 2000s. Before entering Parliament, Theophanous worked as an advisor to Fiona Richardson, the previous Labor Member for Northcote and former Minister for Women and Prevention of Family Violence. She worked to deliver Victoria's first Gender Equality Strategy. She attended Northcote Primary School, and later Alphington Grammar before graduating from University High School. Theophanous completed a Bachelor of Arts in Media and Communications at the University of Melbourne in 2008.
