Academic research Guskiewicz was a neuroscientist,
sports medicine researcher, and the Kenan Distinguished Professor at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is one of the Principal Investigators of the Injury Prevention Research Center, and directs the Matthew Gfeller Sport-Related Traumatic Brain Injury Research Center. He was a 2011
MacArthur Fellow.
Academic administration On January 1, 2016, Guskiewicz was appointed as the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. On February 6, 2019, he was appointed as interim chancellor of UNC Chapel Hill. On December 13, 2019, he was officially appointed as the 12th chancellor of UNC Chapel Hill by the
UNC Board of Governors. On December 8, 2023 the
Michigan State University Board of Trustees unanimously voted to appoint Guskiewicz as the 22nd president of the university, effective on March 4, 2024. == Personal life ==
