In 2016, he was sentenced to 18 months in prison for tax evasion. He began his term at
Maasiyahu Prison on October 15, 2017. During the 2023 Israeli-Hamas war, a video of Peretz performing to soldiers, chanting and singing “May their village burn, May Gaza be erased" has been included in
South Africa's application to the
International Court of Justice in the
South Africa v. Israel (Genocide Convention) case. In March 2024, Peretz defended his statement on Israel's
Channel 14, stating "We’re burning their village, we need to erase their village and we need to burn their village.” State attorney
