Abruzzo was nominated by President
Franklin D. Roosevelt on February 3, 1936, to the
United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, to a new seat authorized by 49 Stat. 659. He was confirmed by the
United States Senate on February 12, 1936, and received his commission on February 15, 1936. He assumed
senior status on February 15, 1966. His service terminated on May 28, 1971, due to his death in
Potomac,
