Matthias Pei Shangde was a Chinese Catholic prelate and Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Beijing from 1989 to 2001.

Biography
Pei was born into a Catholic family in Zhuolu County, Hebei in 1918. At the age of 13, he entered the Congregatio Discipulorum Domini, which was founded by Archbishop Celso Benigno Luigi Costantini. He was ordained a priest on May 30, 1948. In 1950, he worked at Beijing Pharmaceutical Factory. During the Cultural Revolution, he was sentenced to ten years of labor reform. ==References==
