Mitsutarō Shirai was a Japanese plant pathologist, mycologist, and herbalist. He was the first president of the Phytopathology Society of Japan and emeritus professor of plant pathology, College of Agriculture, The University of Tokyo.
Life
Shirai was born in Edo (now Tokyo). He began his professional career as teacher of forest botany and plant pathology in the University of Tokyo in 1886. From 1906 to 1925, he occupied the first term of professor at Laboratory of Plant Pathology in this university. He died on May 30, 1932. == Work ==
