Neilson Voyne Smith FBA, known as Neil Smith, was Emeritus Professor of Linguistics at University College London.

Honours
Smith was elected a Fellow of the British Academy (FBA) in 1999. He was made an Honorary Member of the Linguistic Society of America in 2000. ==Personal life and death==
Personal life and death
Smith was married to Saras Smith ( Saraswati Keskar, 1936–2018). Together they endowed the Neil and Saras Smith Medal for Linguistics. Smith died on 16 November 2023, at the age of 83–84. ==Selected works==
