Carole Terry Gee and
David Winship Taylor in 2016. It is placed in the subgenus
Nymphaea subg. Lotos. However, this placement is quite uncertain and
Nymphaea elisabethae may be closer to
Nuphaea engelhardtii than to
Nymphaea subg.
