Oran Young

In 2004, he served as a co-chair for the Arctic Human Development Report. He is a founding chair of the Committee on the Human Dimensions of Climate Change of the National Academy of Sciences. He also served as a founding co-chair of the Global Carbon Project. Young defines governance as a social function centered on steering societies toward desirable outcomes and away from collective tragedies, such as the Tragedy of the Commons. He argues that while governments are organizations that may fulfill this function, they are neither necessary nor sufficient for effective governance for occur. This perspective has allowed for a deeper exploration of "stateless" governance, particularly in international society and the Arctic region. == Works ==
