The station was opened on 1 April 1865, upon the inauguration of the
Rome–Orte section of the Rome–Ancona railway. On 4 January 1866, the station ceased to be a
terminus, when the line was extended further southeast, as far as
Foligno. Between 1928 and 1961, Orte was the
junction for a
branch line to Civitavecchia upon which some filming of
Von Ryan's Express took place. From then until 1994, that line was operated only between Capranica and Orte. The line is currently disused, but in September 2010 a contract was let for its reconstruction. ==Features==
