By convention these features are identified on lunar maps by placing the letter on the side of the crater midpoint that is closest to Patsaev. The satellite crater Patsaev Q is located just to the southwest of Patsaev. In the past it was suggested that this feature be renamed Chenier, in honor of
André Marie Chénier the French poet, but this was never adopted by the IAU. The crater now known as
