Etymology
The name is derived from the personal name Petr, meaning "the village of Petr's people". The Roman numeral in the name serves to distinguish it from the nearby municipality of the same name, Petrovice II. ==Geography==
Geography
Petrovice I is located about south of Kutná Hora and southeast of Prague. It lies in the Upper Sázava Hills. The highest point is at above sea level. Several small streams flow through the municipality. The municipal territory is rich in fishponds, the largest of which is Zbožňov. ==History==
