2020 census As of the
2020 census, Prattville had a population of 37,781. The median age was 37.6 years. 24.4% of residents were under the age of 18 and 15.2% of residents were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 90.5 males, and for every 100 females age 18 and over there were 86.9 males age 18 and over. There were 14,624 households, including 9,658 families. 34.9% had children under the age of 18 living in them. Of all households, 50.3% were married-couple households, 15.5% were households with a male householder and no spouse or partner present, and 29.7% were households with a female householder and no spouse or partner present. About 25.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. There were 15,537 housing units, of which 5.9% were vacant. The homeowner vacancy rate was 1.3% and the rental vacancy rate was 5.9%.

The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 3.12. In the city, the age distribution of the population showed 27.1% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 27.9% from 25 to 44, 24.6% from 45 to 64, and 11.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36.3 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.6 males.
