RoadPeace was founded by Brigitte Chaudhry
MBE following the death of her son in 1990, after which she was shocked at the 'shabby' treatment of his innocent death when is discovered that the response to a road death was very different from the response to any other form of violent death from any other cause. Chaudhry decided to challenge the casual attitude to road casualties and offer support to the victims. The first Roadpeace meeting was held in 1991, the organisation was established in 1992 with the first ever helpline for road crash victims with Chaudhry was National Secretary; RoadPeace organised the first
World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims in 1993 which now takes place in many places on every continent on the third Sunday in November every year (a week after
Remembrance Sunday which takes place each year in the
United Kingdom and which remembers the dead from wars). with the
European Federation of Road Traffic Victims, which was also founded by Chaudhry. In 2005, the World Day of Remembrance was adopted by the
United Nations General Assembly The charity closed down on 9 January 2026 and its staff were made redundant. == See also ==
