Originally from Kerala, Sandeep Mohan was born in
Jabalpur before he moved to Mumbai to start his career. He initially worked as an assistant director to
Sanjay Leela Bhansali for
Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999) before deciding to become an independent filmmaker. His first film
Love, Wrinkle-free (2012), which was about an unwanted pregnancy, was awarded an
A certificate. As a result, Sandeep decided to make his next film
Hola Venky! with a crew of only three additional people and with a new initiative called travelling cinema in which he would not show the film to the censor board but instead to a small group of people worldwide. The film had a direct online release in India. He continued with his travelling cinema initiative for his next film
Shreelancer (2017) before opting for an OTT platform for his most recent film
Nirmal Anand ki Puppy (2019), which was inspired by his relationship with his pet dog.His latest film is Danny Goes Aum that has been travelling internationally and is available in 10 countries around the world including in US, Canada, Scandinavia, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourgh and South Korea. Love, Wrinkle-free released in Indian cinema halls through the PVR Director's Rare banner in 10 cities and was appreciated for its quirky character based comedy.The film is now available on Prime Video after being acquired by Shemaroo Films. His second film Hola Venky had a limited 3 week Theatrical Run in San Jose and San Francisco theatre before he started travelling and screening the film with his own projector(The Great Indian Travelling Cinema). Shreelancer his 3rd film released in India and the US in the year 2017 and was widely appreciated. Now the film is available in Prime Video apart from other platforms. The film was acquired by Shemaroo Films. Nirmal Anand ki Puppy, his 4th feature was self-released by Sandeep himself in select Cinepolis Cinema Halls immediately after the Covid lockdown and is a much loved film. The film is now available in various platforms around the world.
