2020 census As of the
2020 census, Shiprock had a population of 7,718. The median age was 34.4 years. 28.5% of residents were under the age of 18 and 13.1% of residents were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 92.5 males, and for every 100 females age 18 and over there were 87.2 males age 18 and over. 79.7% of residents lived in urban areas, while 20.3% lived in rural areas. There were 2,280 households in Shiprock, of which 45.1% had children under the age of 18 living in them. Of all households, 31.9% were married-couple households, 19.8% were households with a male householder and no spouse or partner present, and 39.9% were households with a female householder and no spouse or partner present. The average household size was 3.73 and the average family size was 4.06. In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 38.6% under the age of 18, 11.6% from 18 to 24, 28.4% from 25 to 44, 16.5% from 45 to 64, and 4.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 25 years. For every 100 females, there were 92.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.3 males.
