It was created in 1966 mostly from Queens—Lunenburg and Shelburne—Yarmouth—Clare. In 2003, the district added portions of Halifax West. After the 2012 federal electoral redistribution, the riding gained 11% of its new territory from Halifax West. ==Members of Parliament==
