The bulk of the city is in Lincoln County, part of the
Oklahoma City metropolitan area. A sliver in the east is in Creek County, part of the
Tulsa metropolitan area.
2020 census As of the
2020 census, Stroud had a population of 2,719. The median age was 38.2 years, with 24.2% of residents under the age of 18 and 18.6% 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 90.4 males, and for every 100 females age 18 and over there were 86.9 males age 18 and over. 0% of residents lived in urban areas, while 100.0% lived in rural areas. There were 1,082 households in Stroud, of which 33.9% had children under the age of 18 living in them. Of all households, 45.6% were married-couple households, 17.0% were households with a male householder and no spouse or partner present, and 30.2% were households with a female householder and no spouse or partner present. About 27.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. There were 1,246 housing units, of which 13.2% were vacant. Among occupied housing units, 61.8% were owner-occupied and 38.2% were renter-occupied. The homeowner vacancy rate was 1.9% and the rental vacancy rate was 14.1%.

The average household size was 2.36 and the average family size was 3.00. In the city, the population was spread out, with 25.5% under the age of 18, 8.0% from 18 to 24, 24.9% from 25 to 44, 22.0% from 45 to 64, and 19.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 87.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 82.5 males. The median income for a household in the city was $27,222, and the median income for a family was $31,742. Males had a median income of $26,076 versus $18,250 for females. The
