Tamalpais-Homestead first appeared as a
census designated place in the
1980 U.S. census. The census reported that 99.8% of the population lived in households, 0.2% lived in non-institutionalized group quarters, and no one was institutionalized. In addition, 99.9% of residents lived in urban areas, while 0.1% lived in rural areas. There were 4,460 households, out of which 35.2% included children under the age of 18. Of all households, 59.0% were married-couple households, 5.4% were
cohabiting couple households, 22.4% had a female householder with no spouse or partner present, and 13.2% had a male householder with no spouse or partner present. 22.5% of households were one person, and 11.8% were one person aged 65 or older. The average household size was 2.57. There were 3,148
families (70.6% of all households). The age distribution was 23.8% under the age of 18, 5.5% aged 18 to 24, 17.9% aged 25 to 44, 32.6% aged 45 to 64, and 20.2% who were 65years of age or older. The median age was 46.9 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.3 males, and for every 100 females age 18 and over there were 91.0 males age 18 and over. The median household income was $238,158, and the
per capita income was $114,931. About 2.3% of families and 3.9% of the population were below the poverty line. ==Education==
