On January 3, 1945, Davis was nominated by President
Franklin D. Roosevelt to a seat on the
United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia vacated by Judge
Bascom Sine Deaver. Davis was confirmed by the
United States Senate on January 29, 1945, and received his commission on January 30, 1945. He served as Chief Judge from 1949 to 1961, assuming
senior status on June 30, 1961, and serving in that capacity until his death on May 19, 1969. ==References==
