Voiced alveolo-palatal affricate

A voiced alveolo-palatal sibilant affricate is a type of consonantal sound, used in some spoken languages. The symbols in the International Phonetic Alphabet that represent this sound are ⟨d͡ʑ⟩, ⟨d͜ʑ⟩. The tie bar may be omitted, yielding ⟨dʑ⟩. There is also a ligature ⟨ʥ⟩, which has been retired by the International Phonetic Association but is still used. Occasionally the stop component is transcribed ⟨ɟ⟩. An older transcription that indicated approximately the same sound was ⟨dʓ⟩.
