The airport is named in honor of Frans Seda (1926–2009), who is a former finance minister of Indonesia from Maumere. The airport is located about 5 km from the city center and serves as the main gateway to Maumere. Currently, the airport is served by two airlines, NAM Air and Wings Air, with flights to Kupang, Labuan Bajo, and Makassar.
