2020 census As of the
2020 census, there were 2,995 people and 1,070 households in the town, including 599 families. The median age was 42.8 years. 20.9% of residents were under the age of 18 and 23.1% of residents were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females, there were 90.8 males, and for every 100 females age 18 and over there were 86.8 males age 18 and over. Of the 1,070 households, 29.8% had children under the age of 18 living in them. Of all households, 39.4% were married-couple households, 17.6% were households with a male householder and no spouse or partner present, and 37.3% were households with a female householder and no spouse or partner present. About 34.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 16.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. There were 1,203 housing units, of which 11.1% were vacant. The homeowner vacancy rate was 1.3% and the rental vacancy rate was 10.0%.

In the town, the population was spread out, with 23.0% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 27.3% from 25 to 44, 20.4% from 45 to 64, and 21.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.6 males.
